Seasonal changes and their effects on your skin

As the seasons change the various climatic factors influence and affect your skin. Because everyone’s skin is different each individual reaction can vary. With summer coming to an end and fall drawing near, it’s time to start thinking about the effects that the cool winds and crisp mornings will have on your skin.

As the weather shifts to a colder climate, we tend to add heat to our physical environment. The addition of heat to our surrounding environment pulls the moisture out of the air, as well as the skin. Hydration is therefore very important during this time and it is essential to prevent your skin from becoming dry and sensitive. Because the cold air outside causes the pores to close, our bodies natural oils are not being secreted at the same levels, providing little to no natural protection and hydration. Incorporating a serum into your daily routine before the application of a moisturizer will replace lost oils and assist the skin in maintaining its hydration.

Incorporating a natural exfoliate into your skin care regime is also key. Regardless of skin type, everyone can benefit from a good exfoliation. To be done by a skin care professional, or twice a week at home, incorporating exfoliation will rid the skin of dry dead cells and assist in cell regeneration. Keeping with the routine will ensure your success in maintaining your skin’s structure and balance year round.

Regardless of skin type, it is also important to incorporate a skin care treatment routine such as a series of microdermabrasion facials, enzyme peels or deep cleansing and rejuvenating facials. It is ideal to begin in the fall months as the skin has more then likely been exposed to many damaging factors over the summer months.

As always, to maintain year round skin health and structure, always be sure to be diligent with a skin care regime that is best suited for your needs, drink lots of water, get plenty of sleep and be sure to eat healthy.

Also, an SPF of at least 15 is essential to help protect your skin and provide a barrier against sun damage even throughout the fall and winter months.
